I've been wonder...Super glad that you liked it! I've been wondering if the big posts have been worth it, heh. Unfortunately my next one will be smaller then usual...long story short, my scheduling is going to be crazy for the next week, and within that time I'll be ending this series.

Snaking is something that comes naturally for me now..for the most part, anyway. You can pretty much do it with any kart, but it's only worth it with karts that excel at handling, so you won't hit obstacles or, even worse, drive off course. The Mushmellow, my favorite kart, is excellent at this and I'm surprised how well I'm doing with it in Time Trials...with the exception of Donut Plains and Cheep Cheep Beach (They're just unbeatable!). Anyway, you'll find that it's a lot easier with smaller karts.

As for the Mario Kart series in general, personally I really did love playing Mario Kart Wii but unfortunately I never did put efficient time into it (which I'm planning to fix this spring). The only thing I'd say was wrong with it was the abundance of super-powered items, and then you have the horrendous Thunder Cloud item...eeeggghh.

I can't speak for DK Jr. since, as explained in the post, I've barely played Super Mario Kart. At any rate, I'm *pretty* sure that Donkey Kong isn't the fastest racer in the series, and from what I've read it might be that the lightweight racers are faster than him. The whole experience did leave an impression on me, though, and with the exception of Mario Kart DS (he's just so dang awkward to control!) I still use him.

As for your questions..

1. I'm referring to the meme "Guile's theme goes with everything". Most use the Super Nintendo version, but I've found that I've grown especially fond of the SF4 version despite never playing it. They did play it at Video Games Live when I was in Newark last December, which kicked ass.

2. Unfortunately, Metroid is the Nintendo series I have experienced the least. I did invest a ton of time in the original Metroid Prime, which I adored but never finished due to strange glitches with my memory (the data would be deleted, but would still be present in the card menu). It's something I'm definitely planning on amending and, at the very least, you'll be seeing the original Prime and Super Metroid on the blog in the future.Anthonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12823666211533878050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-274272595406297504.post-4876976816523893472011-02-09T16:24:53.911-08:002011-02-09T16:24:53.911-08:00Another well crafted mega-post, where to start.
L...Another well crafted mega-post, where to start.

Let me say off the bat that if you could pick up Snaking in Mario Kart with little effort, I'm jealous. It was the one thing I could never ever get right in Mario Kart until years after it came out. Even now I can barely Snake for more than a few strides.

I gotta say I share you sentiments concerning Mario Kart 64, but even one step further. Up until recently I still played my N64 quite a bit, and while a lot of games still hold their own today (Zelda, Mario 64, Goldeneye), many of them will seem incredibly sparse today. Not to mention immense amounts of fog, poor frame rates, and a now really uncomfortable controller. I don't regret my choice of an N64 over a PS1, but the 3rd Gen system came at a transitional time where it had to start from scratch in its capabilities, as opposed to building off the technology of a previous system.

Also, I've never quite understood the flak that Double Dash gets to be honest. I'd say Double Dash ranks fairly high on the list (I think I've mentioned this before in another response). If anything I'd say that Mario Kart Wii deserves the most crap being thrown at it.

Also, I could be wrong, but I believe your initial impressions that Donkey Kong Jr is faster than most racers is indeed correct. At least in the SNES games (but I think the newer ones too) heavy characters (such as Bowser, and DK Jr) had very low acceleration rates but noticeably higher top speeds.

Two last things:

1) Which Guile theme are you referring to? I barely played SF4, and don't remember his theme in it too much, but it's impossible for me to forget his old SSF2 theme.

2)Do you have plans to do any Metroid posts in the far future? You've seen that Other M bombed bad, but Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were good games (more so 1 than too), but I'd love to hear your thoughts with Super Metroid and beyond (if you haven't played Super Metroid, get it on Virtual Console if you don't have an SNES!).

Looking forward to the next series of posts.G.
